Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray Smartphone Review

This tiny phone is so slender and light, you could easily forget you have it in your pocket. As we have come to expect from Sony, the build quality is outstanding, everything from the buttons to the case, feels well put together.

Like most of the new Sony Ericsson smartphones, the Ray runs on Google Android operating system 2.3, with a Sony 1GHZ processor. Its pretty fast, but your unlikely to store huge amount of media on this device, as the screen is too small to enjoy media on. This smartphone will run multiple Apps with ease, thousands are available now from the Android Market.

Sony’s social media syndicator – Timeline, make a welcome return and works with Android very well. With 5 screens to chose from, organising your Facebook and Twitter updates is a cinch, despite the small screen.

The built in web browser is great for quick online searches and the tiny 3.3 inch screen is very responsive, but you will need nimble little fingers to avoid those annoying miss hits! The screen is very sharp and for quick web browsing and messaging, its is more than suffice.

A clever feature on this phone is the Sony Virtual Keyboard. Simply hold the phone horizontally and use the predictive text to quickly construct messages. Its pretty slick, but you need will need to get practicing, if you’re used to larger smartphone.

Originally, Sony Ericsson phones were designed with music in mind and the Ray is not quite on the iPod’s level, but offers excellent sound quality plus a 4GB Micro SD to store tunes on. We recommend using the bundles earphones, as they are designed specifically to work with Sony Ericsson devices. The headphone jack is standard size, so you can plug in your normal headphones, should the need arise.

One amazing feature on the Ray, which totally belies its size, is the internal speaker. Its so loud that in the wrong hands, it could be a real menace! You know the people that walk down the street, blasting ‘tinny’ music out from their phone, oblivious to how annoying it is!

The Xperia Ray feels and looks a quality device. You will get 24 hours out of one charge on this phone, which compared to the larger models, is a lifetime. If you want a small smartphone that doesn’t cost the earth, this is one of the best out there.
